Our Approach to Online Learning
At Benbridge Academy, our teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student deserves a personalised, engaging, and comprehensive education. Our approach to online learning is designed to meet the unique needs of each learner, encouraging their development into confident, capable, and socially responsible individuals. Here’s how we make this happen:

Step 1: Flipped Learning (Independent Learning Before Class)
Before a class takes place, our teachers provide students with independent learning resources. This may take many forms. Examples may include pre-reading of key material, a research task, a creative engagement activity, visual stimulus such as documentary clips or still images, or even an assessment of prior knowledge quiz. The possibilities are too many to list in full. This efficient introduction to new material and concepts allows students to take ownership of the material prior to the active learning stage.
Step 2: Active Learning (Collaborative Learning During Class)
During timetabled lessons, highly-qualified teachers plan active learning to cement concepts and enhance understanding and mastery of skills. The in-class step benefits from students’ engagement Following Step 1, the teacher-student dialogue is more efficient and related to each student’s further development rather than a teacher-led dissemination of material prior to active learning. Teachers have more time to develop a deeper knowledge of individual needs and plan active learning strategies to develop resilient, self-reliant students who have the courage to vocalise their misunderstanding and share their mistakes.
Step 3: Consolidation (Continued Learning After Class)
Having successfully engaged in the first two steps, students will engage in a process of consolidation. This could take the form of related skills practice, extension tasks, optional challenges and assessment activities. This is an opportunity for individualised consolidation activities based upon each student’s learning goal. Students are able to review and improve at their own pace. Students at all stages of their learning journeys can move forward. Our resources are available to students at all times.
