Your timetable depends upon what you and your families want your educational journey to look like; at Benbridge Academy, your voice matters. All students will usually experience the core subjects of Maths, English and  the Sciences along with their choice  of other subjects from the Humanities, the Arts and a range of Modern languages.  The ‘option process’ begins as soon as you join the Secondary School at Benbridge and can be shaped continually year after year until the GCSE and A’ Level years. Your timetable will consist of a combination of live lessons and directed, independent study, enabling you to learn at your own pace, in a way that suits you and allows you the flexibility to follow other interests or hobbies throughout the week, alongside your academic studies.

At the beginning of every live lesson, the register will be taken. During tutor time each week, important messages will be delivered and you will have the chance to take part in discussions and have a little social time.  Your Form Tutor will be your link to all aspects of school life and will support you related to all things academic and be someone you can talk to about any concerns you may have.   You can arrange a chat with them whenever you need to.

As per your own individual timetable, you will attend regular live lessons. You will be able to see your classmates throughout the session and will be given opportunities to interact with them, and your teacher, in a variety of different ways. There will be opportunities to join your peers in breakout rooms which will enable you to collaborate on projects, share ideas and develop group work skills. You will be able to connect with your friends at break times and between classes, giving you the chance to socialise and build relationships.

Throughout the week you will take ownership of your own learning, developing important independent study skills and learning at your own pace. Flipping the classroom allows you the time and space to digest information, consolidate knowledge and revisit resources, as well as challenge yourself and accelerate your own progress. Read more about our three part learning model here.

Your teachers will plan your lessons using a range of different applications and resources, to enable you to work effectively online. Tasks may take a variety of forms: written work, discussions, group work, quizzes, live worksheets, independent projects, inquiry-based learning – the list is endless. Your day will be filled with a whole array of interesting and engaging opportunities that will enable you to consolidate knowledge and demonstrate your understanding. Work will be marked by your teacher online and you will be given regular feedback; you will be encouraged to engage in your own learning journey, understanding what you need to do to improve and make progress.  You will always have a voice related to your particular needs.

Your days may finish at different times, depending on your timetable and the subjects you are studying. Live lessons will be over by 3pm each day but there may also be opportunities to take part in extra-curricular activities and clubs after this time. After a full and productive day, and once your live lessons are over, you will say goodbye to your teachers and classmates and ‘switch off’ until tomorrow.
